Field Experience & AI Innovation Model
An Integrated 12-Hour Weekly Practicum Framework open to students at all education levels — including high school, community college, undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate programs — prepared for workforce development, practicum enhancement, interdisciplinary behavioral health training, and future-focused public health leadership development.
Overview
The Voice Up Cross-Initiative Field Experience & AI Innovation Model is an interdisciplinary practicum framework designed to transform traditional field placement experiences into a dynamic, community-connected, systems-oriented professional development process.
Rather than limiting students to passive observation or isolated placement activities, this model immerses students in real-world community initiatives, systems navigation, behavioral health engagement, leadership development, public health innovation, digital wellness exploration, and AI-supported problem solving.

AI & Digital Solutions
Extension Innovation Lab
Over a two-week applied learning period, students revisit each case study and analyze how technology may improve or worsen the systems challenges presented. Students actively explore Base44, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and additional AI-supported platforms — comparing usability, emotional tone, accessibility, communication quality, ethical concerns, behavioral health applications, and limitations.
What Students Design
- Digital support concepts
- Wellness engagement tools
- Navigation systems
- Emotional safety features
- Culturally responsive innovation ideas
Purpose of AI Integration
The AI component is not designed to replace human relationships or behavioral health engagement. Instead, it helps students critically examine where technology supports access, where digital systems create barriers, how AI may unintentionally increase emotional overwhelm, and why human-centered innovation matters.
Core Themes
What Students Repeatedly Analyze
"Students learn: technology alone does not create healing, trust, or belonging. Those outcomes still depend on relationships, communication, advocacy, emotional safety, dignity, and culturally responsive human engagement."
Final Outcome
Who You Will Become
By the conclusion of the initiative, students emerge not simply as individuals who completed required practicum hours, but as:
Reflective Practitioners
Systems Thinkers
Culturally Responsive Advocates
Interdisciplinary Collaborators
Community-Informed Leaders
Ethically Grounded AI Practitioners
"Human connection remains essential. Technology may support navigation, communication, wellness engagement, and access — but trust, dignity, belonging, emotional safety, advocacy, and meaningful relationships remain the true foundation of effective behavioral health and public health practice."
