Guided by Two Mentors

Jose's LCSW Journey, Supported Every Step

Jose isn't walking this path alone. From his very first case study, he has been mentored by two guides who shape how he reads, reflects, and grows โ€” one who founded the vision, and one who lives the clinical work.

The Founder

A fellow learner who believes all are welcome on this journey โ€” not someone who has arrived, but someone still walking it alongside Jose. The Founder's letter was the first case study Jose completed, offered with the humility to say "we all have much to learn" and the patience to let purpose come before practice. It's an invitation, not instruction: understand your why first, and let everything else follow.

Dr. Danica Nestor

A licensed clinician who shows up with precision and empathy in equal measure โ€” caring enough to get the small details right, because those are often the details that matter most to the people being served. Through her welcome page and the clinical case studies she anchors, Dr. Nestor extends patience to every mistake Jose makes along the way, treating each one as part of becoming, not a setback from it.

Two mentors, one direction. The Founder keeps Jose connected to purpose; Dr. Nestor keeps him connected to practice. Together, they model the balance every LCSW student is learning to hold โ€” why this work matters and how to do it well.

Why This Path Matters

How Jose's Sequence Becomes Your Foundation

Jose didn't choose his case studies at random. He followed a deliberate arc โ€” one that moved from understanding purpose to building clinical skill, then into confronting real-world systems, and finally toward integrating everything into a professional identity. That arc is not just his story. It's a blueprint.

The pattern you can borrow:

  1. Start with why. Jose began with the founder's letter โ€” not a clinical case. Purpose first, skill second.
  2. Build empathy before expertise. His early cases (Spice of Jade, Music & Healing) taught him to see people before problems.
  3. Layer skill onto feeling. The Care Desk and Documentation workshops gave structure to his empathy.
  4. Go deep before going wide. He completed full series (LCSW, Alliant, AI Consulting) rather than skipping around.
  5. Reflect at the end, not just the beginning. The Student Compass series and LCSW capstone asked him to synthesize โ€” and that's where his scores peaked.

You don't have to follow Jose's exact order. But his sequence reveals something important: the case studies that ask you to feel come before the ones that ask you to decide, and the ones that ask you to decide come before the ones that ask you to lead. If you skip the feeling, your decisions will lack context. If you skip the decisions, your leadership will lack substance.

Use the timeline below as a guide. Click into any case study that connects to the areas of making a difference that matter most to you โ€” whether that's clinical care, child welfare, AI ethics, community advocacy, or something else entirely. The sequence will hold. The direction is yours to choose.

The Ten Phases

Jose's 47 case studies cluster into ten natural phases. Each one builds on the last.

1

Foundation

May 23 โ€“ June 1 ยท 3 cases

Started with purpose โ€” the founder's letter, a family advocacy story, and arts-based public health. These three cases set the emotional and intellectual foundation for everything that followed.

2

Orientation

June 12 ยท 3 cases

Met his clinical supervisor, reviewed real supervision minutes, and began the Alliant University series. This phase connected him to the mentorship structure and the clinical reasoning framework.

3

Care Desk & Practicum

June 18 โ€“ 21 ยท 4 cases

Completed the full Care Desk trilogy and a live practicum session โ€” learning how to triage, document, and respond with both empathy and accuracy.

4

Core Principles & Clinical

June 22 โ€“ 29 ยท 7 cases

Returned to the five core principles with field context, built clinical documentation skills, and began the LCSW and Alliant case study series in parallel.

5

LCSW Series Deep Dive

June 30 โ€“ July 6 ยท 4 cases

Completed the original five LCSW case studies, connected them to a live practicum session, and advanced through the Alliant series.

6

Alliant Completion & Social Justice

July 11 โ€“ 13 ยท 4 cases

Finished the Alliant series, confronted the Gabriel Hernandez child welfare case, explored AI in mental health, and began the Every Minute series.

7

Every Minute & AI Consulting

July 13 โ€“ 20 ยท 9 cases

Completed both the Every Minute and AI Consulting workshop series, studied Bryan Stevenson's truth-telling framework, and built a consulting mindset for the AI economy.

8

Clinical Integration

July 25 โ€“ 31 ยท 3 cases

Ran a full mock clinical intake, reflected on why Voice Up exists, and explored the reflective space between sessions โ€” integrating clinical skill with professional identity.

9

Student Compass Series

August 2 ยท 7 cases

Completed all seven Student Compass modules in a single day โ€” mapping his own direction through the practicum landscape with honesty and self-awareness.

10

LCSW Introduction Capstone

August 9 โ€“ 10 ยท 3 cases

Finished his journey with the LCSW Introduction capstone cases โ€” earning his highest scores and bringing the full arc of 47 case studies into focus.

The Complete Sequence

Every case study Jose completed, in the exact order he completed it.

Your Turn

Jose's path shows what's possible when you commit to the full arc. You don't need to complete all 47 โ€” but you do need to start. Pick the case study that speaks to the difference you want to make, and let the sequence carry you forward.

"Make allowance for each other's faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful."
