The Thing That Has Not Been Created Before

Every tool, every protocol, every framework you have studied in this series existed because someone noticed something that wasn't working — and decided to do something about it. The discharge protocol that fails Leila. The algorithmic dashboard that doesn't know what it doesn't know. The automated message that arrives too late. The clinical gap that has no name. Each of these represents a moment where the existing system ran out of imagination before it ran out of people who needed help. This workshop begins from a different premise: that you — with your background, your clinical experience, your cultural knowledge, your questions, and your frustrations — are precisely the person positioned to see something that existing systems have missed. Voice Up founder Art Fuller said it plainly in a recent session with practicum student Jose Rosiles: "I'm going to predict by September 1, Jose will have created something that has not been created before. That's what I am going to predict. I don't know what it is, but it's gonna be something." That prediction was not made because Jose had special technical skills. It was made because Jose had been paying attention — to his clients, to his placements, to the gaps between what the system promised and what the people in it actually received. This workshop asks you to do the same thing: pay attention. Name what you see. And begin to imagine what only you could build.
